It’s difficult to create magic at scale, and because of that, we consciously run a tight ship. Character is the portfolio of a duo who have seen firsthand how small teams can build impressive things. You’ll always work with one or both of us, we might assemble a small team but we’re fans of running a tight ship.
What type of work do you focus on?
Product, Product Website, Brand
We typically prefer projects that blur the lines on disciplines as we believe a special magic emerges on generalist teams.
What’s your way of working?
We embed with your existing team. We work as one of yours as much as possible, meaning the process is highly individualised to meet you were you are at.
We typically work fractionally, set up a shared slack, and join a few rituals so we can stay aligned during the creative process. We keep meetings to a minimum but we share early and often.
What’s your ideal stage?
We typically support two types of founders:
- Early in the journey. Think Seed to Series B who want help to execute on their early vision.
- Companies who are later in their journey that run smaller pods or dedicated engines for innovation.
Why start Character?
We can, and probably should write an essay on this. VC is arguably overexplored but there are still too few offerings for Creative Capital. It felt like a space that is underserved and under-optimized, especially when design-led companies perform so well. We want to see great companies in the world.
Also on a more personal note, we love the infectious boldness of founders and want to keep close to it. Being early is a great gift, and great fun as a builder.
What’s your process?
Whichever one fits your team best. We join your team and get to work on the highest priority, rinse and repeat.
How do you structure compensation?
We work with hourly rates and equity.
